It’s here!
Sign ups are officially available for the 5th annual WordCount Blogathon, which takes place May 1-31, 2012. You’ll find a registration form at the bottom of this post.
The WordCount Blogathon is an annual event that brings together bloggers of all stripes – professionals and amateurs – to improve their blogs and blogging skills by every day in May.
Once you’ve registered, you’ll receive a welcome message with instructions for adding the 2012 WordCount Blogathon participant badge to display on your site – it’s that easy!
If you make it all 31 days, your name will be entered into a drawing for writing-related prizes held on the last day of the blogathon.
Add yourself to the 2012 WordCount Blogathon newsletter mailing list to receive announcements related to the event. You’ll also be automatically added to the WordCount Blogathon Google Group, to exchange questions and answers and other information related to the event.
Don’t forget to sign up for my RSS feed to receive WordCount posts about blogathon activities in your email inbox or blog reader.
If you have questions, email me at wordcountfreelance@gmail.com, or catch me on Twitter, @michellerafter.
You can also follow the 2011 WordCount Blogathon on Twitter using the hashtag #blog2012.
Registration will stay open through 11 p.m. Easter/8 p.m. Pacific time on May 1 – leaving stragglers just enough time to sign up and write their first post. Latecomers can participate unofficially but aren’t eligible for raffle prizes.
Thanks again for visiting, hope to see you in the Blogathon.
[Updated 5/1 @ 8:01 p.m. Pacific time] Registration for the 2012 Blogathon is now closed.

Hi Michelle:
I would like to participate in your 2012 Blogathon. I do not have a URL as this a new venture for me. Am I able to participate?!?!

Hi:
To participate in the Blogathon you need to have a blog. I can’t create a blog for you, you have to do that yourself. There are a number of free blogging platforms you can use to create a blog, including WordPress.com, Blogger.com, and Tumblr. If you’re interested, I would suggest taking this month to get a blog set up, decide what you want to blog about, pick a blog template (what it will physically look like) and get comfortable with the mechanics of writing posts. If you do all of that, you’ll be in a great place to take part in the challenge cpme May 1.
Hope that helps.

Michelle, thanks so much for sharing. The post was very motivating. I’ve been doing research relative to creating a blog, deciding on my niche(s), target audience, etc.for a while and am ready to spring into action on a multiplicity of levels. Your Blogathon is, in my humble opinion,a gold find for new writers/bloggers and the like because it plunges us into the realm of being responsible for what you say you are going to do, and you get a taste of that responsibility early on if you will. Looking forward to all of it.

I’m sad 🙁 According to this post, you were keeping the “doors” open until 11 PM Pacific time May 1st but the added note says closed at 8 … It’s 9:06 pm Pacific time (I live in WA state) … so you decided to close the doors early.
I just found out about this too via Amethyst Mahoney and would have loved to participate.
well maybe next year!
Good luck to all that are participating!

It was a typo, we’d originally meant to write “11 p.m. Eastern.” Please feel free to play along on an unofficial basis.
