A blog called The Content Marketeer published this list earlier today of reining heavyweights in the content marketing business:
The Content Marketeer 50: Marketers to Watch in 2012
Content marketing is the popular term for custom publishing or digital marketing campaigns produced for online consumption, including blogs, articles, social media campaigns, etc. A lot of companies are practicing some form of content marketing these days, everyone from consumer brands to big technology players.
The genre presents interesting opportunities for freelancers who can write and edit for the web and don’t mind the quasi-advertorial nature of the work. In fact, at a time when $1/word markets are drying up, content marketing gigs represent some of the more lucrative gigs out there.
I’ve worked for two of the companies on Content Marketeer’s list: Federated Media, which started out as a blog advertising network and has since launched a custom publishing arm creating microsites for clients such as Intel and American Express, and Studio One, a web syndication service that produces content across a range of subjects.
Each entry in the Content Marketeer top 50 list includes the name of a person, their company and a link back to the company’s website.
If you’re looking for new opportunities in corporate writing, it’s definitely worth taking a look.

Ah, the homonym strikes again, and this one MS Spellcheck would never catch. Pretty sure that would be “reigning,” not “reining.”

Thanks for sharing this, Michelle. I have been contemplating a foray into corporate writing, and I greatly appreciate this resource.

Great find, Michelle – I’ve worked for a couple of companies on that list too. The majority of my work these days is in custom publishing: many brands these days are interested in providing genuine value in their content, so it’s an interesting space to work in, with less hustling involved than traditional media.
