If you blog and have reached 1,000 posts, you’ve hit a milestone. A thousand posts says you’ve figured out how to make it a satisfying endeavor for yourself, keep readers entertained, and maybe even made it a bankable enterprise.
Over the course of the past few weeks, I’ve been sharing the success stories of long-time bloggers in a series called a series called Blog Stories. You can read the first installments here: 1,000 posts & counting: Long-time bloggers share milestones, advice and here: More bloggers who’ve made it to 1,000 posts tell all.
Today we’ll hear from blogging star Susan Weiner, a chartered financial analyst, editor and writer who’s been blogging since 2005:
Susan Weiner
Blog: Investment Writing
Description: Writing, communications, and marketing tips for financial planners, wealth managers, investment managers, and the marketing and communications staff that supports them.
Blog birthday: May 4, 2008, but my two predecessor blogs date back to the fall of 2005.
WordPress, Blogger or something else: WordPress, but I started on Blogger.
Blog design theme: InvestmentWriting2012 by ThemesPress, modified by Cold Spring Design.
Ad networks: None
Posts to date: I have more than 1,000 posts between my current blog and its two predecessors, Susan CFA’s Update and Susan Ghostwriter’s Update. Investment Writing emerged from the realization that I shouldn’t try to separate the two topics.
Most popular post: My most popular post is Poll: “Investable” or “investible” – Which spelling is correct? Clearly this comes from frustrated financial writers searching for the answer to a vexing question. 92.25% of that post’s viewers go directly to that page after using a search engine.
Your favorite posts: Quick check for writers, with an economic commentary example – This post explains a technique that can help all writers check and improve the quality of an article or blog post; Legal danger for financial bloggers: Two misconceptions, three resources, one suggestion – Many bloggers don’t understand the concept of “fair use.” In this post, I share resources to help them avoid legal problems; and Q&A format for articles: Good or bad? – I’m not a big fan of the Q&A format. This popular post resulted from my analyzing what drives my dislike.
Blogs you read regularly: Nerd’s Eye View: Commentary on financial planning news and developments – Blogger Michael Kitces has a flair for stirring up discussion; and Rock the Boat Marketing – Pat Allen keeps me posted on the latest developments in social media marketing for asset managers.
Advice for beginning bloggers: Blog consistently to build an audience. Share your blog posts via social media and an e-newsletter. You need to get the word out.

Wow, that is a lot of dedication and hard work to get to 1,000. I think I have about 18-20 some posts so I probably will never reach 1,000. Also, thanks for your tips on how to blog successfully.
