I ditched Internet Explorer a long time ago for Firefox, the Web browser from Mozilla, and never looked back. It loads faster, doesn’t crash as often and most Websites look just as good.
Firefox just came out with an upgrade, version 3. Should you switch?
One of my go-to sources for these kinds of computer usability questions is Clyde Lerner, owner of In The Moment Computing, a computer service, repair and organization business in Sunnyvale, California.
According to Lerner, the answer is no, and yes. No, because he’s gotten reports from some Firefox users that after they upgraded they couldn’t get the software to open. But people who are new to Firefox might not have that problem. Here’s what he has to say:
I would suggest you wait until at least 3.0.3 before upgrading. Even then, I would be cautious and wait to hear how it goes with others
If you….have never tried Firefox, now’s a great time to download it. I have no reservations in using Firefox 3.0.1 for first time users.
Next time Firefox asks, “Now, Later, or Never,” choose “Never.” You can always go to the Firefox site and download latest version.
If you’re using Firefox 2.0.16, Lerner recommends sticking with it for now. And if you like add ons, he’s got a bunch of them that work with Firefox 2.0.16 on his Website here.
