Sept. 26 #wclw chat: online marketing expert Russ Henneberry on building your blog

Tired of beating yourself up creating wonderful blog posts only to have next to nobody read them?

Running a blog takes a lot more than writing posts. For a blog to be successful, you have to build a community around it – and that takes knowing a thing or two about blog design and website optimization.

In this month’s WordCount Last Wednesday Twitter chat for writers we’ll look at simple things you can to do on your blog to build up followers and traffic.

Join us on Wednesday, Sept. 26, at 10 a.m. Pacific time. Uses hashtag #wclw to join the chat.

My special guest for the chat is online marketing expert Russ Henneberry, editor of The Daily Egg, a website design and optimization blog produced by Crazy Egg, Inc., a website analytics tool maker.

Questions for #wclw chat

For the 60-minute chat, we’ll start with introductions, then I’ll ask Henneberry a handful of pre-set questions. We’ll leave plenty of time at the end for other questions.

Here are the questions Henneberry will be tackling:

  1. What does online marketing mean for freelance writers or bloggers?
  2. How should freelancers maximize the time they spend on online marketing activities?
  3. What should freelancers do to attract followers and traffic?
  4. What should freelancers do to keep followers and traffic?

How to join the #wclw chat

To join the #wclw chat, you need a Twitter account and free time from 10 to 11 a.m. PDT on Wednesday, Sept. 26. Use the #wclw hashtag to follow tweets related to the chat.

It’s possible to use the standard Twitter interface , but you might find it easier using a Twitter application such as TweetGrid, TweetChat or HootSuite. Of those three, my favorite is TweetChat, which you can log into using your Twitter account.

You might want to alert followers that you’ll be tweeting more than usual during the chat, and suggest they use Muuter.com to temporarily mute you if they don’t want to tune into the conversation.

If you can’t join us, look for a complete transcript of the chat on Wednesday afternoon.

Got an idea for a #wclw chat? Would you like to participate as a guest speaker? Send your idea or bio to me at wordcountfreelance@gmail.com.

Would love to join, but alas, Sept 26 is Yom Kippur. Hope you’ll have a transcript available.
