[UPDATED Feb. 28 to include additional conference info. MVR]
There’s no better way to re-juice your writing energy than spending a few days in the company of fellow writers listening to editors and agents, and talking about your work.
If you haven’t ever been to a writing conference before, go! But deciding which of the hundreds of local or national conferences to attend to can be hard. Or maybe you’ve been going to the same conference year after year and are looking for something a little different.
To help you choose, I’ve researched what’s out there, asked fellow freelancers for their favorites and come up with this list of over two dozen of the more well-known or well-attended conferences for freelancers, journalists and other non-fiction writers in the U.S. and Canada. They are:

Abroad Writers’ Conference will hold our Winter Writers’ Conference and Workshops at Lismore Castle, December 9 – 16, 2013.
Lismore is possibly the most spectacular castle in Ireland. It’s situated high above the Blackwater River with views of rolling, wooded hills and the Knockmealdown Mountains and beyond. It’s no wonder this site has been occupied for centuries before the first castle was ever built. There was almost certainly a settlement here before Lismore Abbey was built in the 7th century, as the Irish name of the site, Lios Mhor, means big fort. They abbey was an important ecclesiastical center and
seat for learning up to the time of King Henry II who is reputed to have stayed here in 1171.
