What you don’t know about online privacy could hurt you

Tuesdays and Thursdays during the 2010 WordCount Blogathon, I’m running posts I originally wrote for SecondAct.com, an online magazine for people over 40 launched in April by Entrepreneur Media, publisher of Entrepreneur Magazine, Entrepreneur.com, WomenEntrepreneur.com and EntrepreneurEnEspanol.com.

Think you’re smarter than a teenager? When it comes to online privacy, you might not be.

A recent study showed that baby boomers were just as ill-informed as 18 to 24 year olds on a wide range of online privacy issues, including what websites’ privacy policies cover and whether a company needs permission to follow your online activities across multiple websites (they don’t — surprised?).

The lack of awareness on privacy matters is especially troubling given how much time we spend online.
