I didn’t see our blog on there. I regsitered last night so it just might not be on the list yet. I am a bit worried that I registered too late though since it was May 2nd. Our blog is melandken.blogspot.com “A different thing every day”.
Melanie: I got your registration earlier today, but am just now updating the list. Had other (paid) deadlines to take care of today first.
Michelle
I’m a few days late into the game, but figured I’d join in anyway!
The more the merrier. You won’t be eligible for the giveaways at the end of the month, but that’s secondary to the discipline and fun of blogging along with the crowd. Welcome.
Michelle
I jumped in late, too, but glad to be here. The results will be my reward. Now, time to go look for some images for tomorrow’s post.

Glad to have you on board, your blog looks great, lots of good tips.

Though I enjoy discovering the work of new writers, I have grave misgivings about this event. More writing is not better writing. It’s also no indication of discipline to develop a habit of textual defecation just to prove you can be “regular”. There’s a reason why pulp fiction is not regarded as highly as literature.
I’ve written 108 posts since Jan. 8th, and I sweated hard over the majority of them. Sometimes it takes more than a day. At least as far as good writing goes, there’s never a point in publishing something that isn’t finished. Of course if you are writing gossip, news trivia, market updates or selling products that serves a different purpose and doesn’t take as long.
Thanks for your take on the blogathon. Obviously it’s not for everyone or even more writers would have signed up. And you’re right, if you’re blogging just to put up any old thing then you’re defeating the purpose. But if you looked at the Blogathon by the numbers post I did earlier this week, you’d see people have varying motivations for participating. Some are starting a new blog, some are going back to one they started but hadn’t kept up, some are blogging for pay various places and the more they post the more traffic they attract and money they potentially make – and I’m not talking about content mill writers here, I’m talking about professional journalists writing for legitimate news organizations. I don’t think many blogathon participants continue to post 7 days a week after the event is over, but for this short time it’s a big push in the right direction.
As for “More writing is not better writing” – my former daily news editor bosses would have disagreed with you on that one. As the old saying goes, practice makes perfect.

I love you more after reading this reply. Amen, sister.

Michelle, should we be using the Google group that was setup as a way to showcase any articles we’ve written for the WordCount Blogathon?
Thanks!
You can use it or tweet about it using the #Blog2010 hashtag.

@Michelle,
I appreciate your detailed reply and am satisfied that we may agree to disagree. You are right that I characterized the motives of participants without sufficient examination. On the other hand, your statement about news, especially the state of news as it exists today, is easy to dismiss.
I’ve been married to a 5-time Emmy-winning TV news writer for 15 years. She’s been a journalist there and in print for over 30 years. I was also a print journalist in major market newspapers before moving on to motion picture work. News used to be written to a much higher level of quality in every media outlet. Facts and assertions were routinely double-confirmed before publishing, and they rarely are now. Innuendo, gossip and opinion routinely masquerade as news now. Car chases pre-empt coverage of major legislation. If it bleeds, it leads. More is not better. It’s just more.
