Hi there:

Wow, the August 2011 #wclw chat was over less than 10 minutes ago and here you are already leaving a comment on the post I shared, thanks!

I wrote this post in 2009; since then, I'd bet that the number of passwords I have has doubled, at least. With so many more daily activities going online (movie rentals, school lunch orders, etc.), plus all the daily deal sites, passwords are mushrooming.

Which makes me think it's time to update this post - so thanks for the inspiration.

Gosh, 30? My last count was nearer 200, but then I work in social media and do most of my freelance writing online. I do store them online... in a place that I have password protected. ;)

My backup is my lovely office manager who prints and files them on a regular basis. I think she is more reliable than the internet.

It's not a bad idea to have passwords written down and stored somewhere, but Internet security experts would probably say it's best to keep them in your bank safety deposit box or a strong box somewhere else in your house or at a friend's house, not necessarily in your office desk drawer.

Promise you won't laugh? Honest? OK then. My high tech solution is to use high strength passwords that even I can't remember. I write them all down on couple of index cards I keep in my desk drawer. Not to worry. It's my home office. My reasoning? If anything ever happens to me or my computer...
